A Detroiter is facing a felony charge for allegedly robbing a bank in Ferndale a few days ago.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, Alvin Myron Murray, 68, is accused of handing a note to a teller at First Merchants Bank on Woodward Avenue on Nov. 10, demanding money. The teller complied.
A witness subsequently identified Murray as the alleged thief, the prosecutor’s office said. An investigation revealed Murray as the alleged robber in a similar crime at an Ann Arbor bank last month.
The criminal charge for the Ferndale robbery was authorized on Nov. 13, court records show. As of early afternoon Nov, 14, arraignment was pending.
“Bank robberies endanger employees and customers,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald stated in a news release. “Thanks to law enforcement, the message to this defendant and any other would-be robbers is, you might get away from the scene, but you won’t get away with the crime.”
Bank robbery is punishable by up to life in prison.
