Berenjak is a new London import known for its coal-grilled kebabs and family-style dining in a swanky setting (in Los Angeles, it’s located in the garden floor of Soho Warehouse). The menu, inspired by founder Kiam Samyani’s childhood spent in Tehran, features shared plates that elicit a feeling of discovery and connection — think jammy coal-fired eggplant dip simmered with tomato and strained yogurt with cucumber. Persian dishes range from meze to kebabs to stews, all served in a twinkling atmosphere that begs to be booked for date night or a birthday dinner whose theme is quiet luxury.
Berenjak is dark and romantic: Candlesticks burn low inside, while the garden patio — which has heaters — evokes the feeling of feasting in an enchanted forest. The only downside is the volume of the music, which doesn’t always match the intimate feeling of the room.
At $90 per person, the Feast menu is the ideal way to try all Berenjak has to offer. It comes with olives to start as well as assorted dips and flatbreads, a selection of kebab, and date-packed white chocolate cookies to finish.
