Georgeanne (Jan) Aston

OBITUARY

Georgeanne (Jan) Cole Aston, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Sacramento. Jan was born on April 21st, 1934, in Oakland and raised in San Leandro, CA. As a young girl, Jan loved horses and hosting dance parties in basement of her home. After a single date the summer following her freshman year at San Jose State, Jan followed Dick Aston to the University of Idaho and married him the summer after her sophomore year. Their marriage would last 64 years.

Dick and Jan raised their four children, Rick, Tom, Linda and Bill in Fremont, CA, except for a four-year period when, for Dick’s job, they lived in Heeze, a town in the south of Holland.

Jan cherished her many Fremont friends. She and Dick hosted and participated in many fun events including Easter Brunches, Fourth of July beach parties, holiday progressive dinners, and lavish dinners parties, all while busily supporting her children in their school pursuits.

Jan worked as an administrative assistant for the principals of several schools in the Fremont Unified School District so her schedule would be close to that of her kids. In 2003 Dick and Jan left Fremont moving to Inverness, CA. Jan once again established a large network of friends in Inverness and for 20 years was active in the Inverness Garden Club, West Marin Scholarship Program, West Marin Rotary Club, West Marin Senior Services, the Inverness Yacht Club, and St Columba’s Episcopal Church.

Jan was preceded in death by Dick in 2018. She is survived by her children Rick, Tom (Paula), Linda (Melodie) and Bill. She adored her grandchildren: Tommy (Toni), Ricky (Chelsea), Christopher (Alex), Brian, Madeline (Trevor) and Emily (Abeer), and four great grandchildren: Katelin, Ricky (Bubba), Charlie and Riley. We all miss her dearly.

Jan loved to cook. She was skilled at knitting, sewing and needle point. She loved her garden and her chickens and her dog Reggie.

A memorial service celebrating Jan’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday February 20th, at Saint Columba’s Episcopal Church in Inverness. A reception will follow.

For those who care to make a charitable contribution in her memory, please consider donating to the West Marin Scholarship Program.
