BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A very wet storm appears to have brought some visitors to the shores of Bakersfield. Wait, that isn’t right.

A major storm system moved through Kern County and Southern California over the weekend forcing some closed roads and flooding to some parts of the area. But in the storm’s aftermath on Monday, the storm appeared to have brought something else.

Viewers contacted 17 News saying they spotted lobsters around Bakersfield. A 17 News photojournalist went to go see, and sure enough — sea life in Bakersfield, but they weren’t lobsters. One viewer shared photos of a crawdad — or crawfish — that was seen on Commerce Drive off Truxtun Avenue.
Crustaceans like these live in freshwater and are known to move like this after storms looking for oxygen or food. They burrow underground and hide in dry weather.
