FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Faculty members with the State Center Federation of Teachers plan to publicly present a vote of “no confidence” for State Center Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Carole Goldsmith.

It will be presented on Tuesday, November 18, during a meeting of the California Community College Board of Governors, calling for Dr. Goldsmith’s immediate removal.

Federation members say the vote was taken on November 13. It came following a review of a recent climate survey, which brought forth allegations of retaliation, bullying and silencing of voices by top district administrators, including Dr. Goldsmith.

SCFT Local 1533 President Keith Ford says in a statement to Action News, “The chancellor, in her comments, has tried to dismiss our claims by saying votes of no confidence are common. However, in our 60 years as the bargaining agent for the faculty at SCCCD, we have never taken this action, ever. This is, in fact, not usual.”

In a statement to Action News, Dr. Goldsmith confirmed that she knew of the vote taken by the SCFT, saying, “I will continue to lead through next fall to ensure continuity for students and major initiatives. The vote taken by the union has no governance effect and does not change District operations.”

She went on to say, “We respect employees’ right to express concerns. Allegations of this nature are taken seriously and addressed through established processes, not through public bargaining tactics.”

Dr. Goldsmith announced her retirement on November 12, but plans to stay on as Chancellor of State Center Community College District until September 2026.

This comes as the Federation and SCCCD are in the midst of union contract negotiations with their next meeting scheduled for Friday, November 21.
