Investigators with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office are concerned that there may be unreported incidents of a 29-year-old man with an arsenal of weapons and ammunition, as well as tactical gear and law enforcement patches, representing himself as law enforcement, officials announced.
An investigation into Dalmin Muran was launched after the 29-year-old was repeatedly spotted at several local schools engaging in suspicious activity and “escalating behavior,” according to a SCSO news release.
Additionally, Muran had reportedly claimed to others that he had prior military service when he did not and expressed an interest in working as a law enforcement officer.
SCSO Sgt. Amar Gahndi declined to get into specifics but told the Los Angeles Times that investigators “received a few messages about alarming interactions” with the 29-year-old, adding, ‘I’ll leave it at that.”
Muran was arrested on Nov. 11, sometime after he was spotted at night on the campus of a high school in East Sacramento County wearing military-style clothing and night-vision goggles. When he was told to leave, he complied but argued with security that he should be allowed access because schools are “public grounds.”
A search of his home revealed a startling number of weapons, some of which had been modified from their original state-compliant configuration and components and parts to build and alter weapons, as well as pepper-spray deployable grenades, smoke grenades and flash bangs, authorities stated.
Among his alleged cache of weaponry, deputies found tactical gear and dozens of law enforcement patches from agencies, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Los Angeles Airport Police.

Muran also appeared to have a backpack with SCSO’s patch and another patch with his own last name on it.
Though it’s not illegal to own law enforcement patches, Ghandi told The Times that the department’s patches appeared to be real despite the fact that the sheriff’s office does not distribute or sell them.
It’s unclear how Muran obtained the patches and if he ever used them to pose as law enforcement.

During the execution of the search warrant, the 29-year-old was also found in possession of a short-barreled rifle that did not have a serial number on it, which was hidden in the attic.
“Muran was booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail for multiple felony charges, but was released on bond hours later,” SCSO officials said.
On Thursday, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office charged him with four felony counts of embezzling property from a gun range, possessing metal knuckles, possession of an assault weapon and possession of a short-barreled rifle, The Times reported.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing and officials urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office’s Threat Management Unit at 916-874-5115.
