PENSACOLA, Fla. — A 27-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday morning for the murder of a 25-year-old woman outside Mugs & Jugs in Escambia County in August 2023.

Christian Ketchup’s life sentence comes after he was convicted of second-degree murder with a firearm in September.

The victim in the case is Tierra Binion, who was a mother of two young twins.

As part of his sentence, Ketchup was ordered to pay $7,200 for the victim’s compensation trust fund.

The incident happened on August 23, 2023, in the parking lot of the bar on Scenic Hwy.

Authorities say a fight started inside Mugs & Jugs between Binion and Ketchup’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Rachel DeRise. It then continued outside.

“During the fight, Christian Ketchup just jumps to [Binion] and punches her and knocks her aside,” Sheriff Chip Simmons said.

Authorities say Binion was knocked out when DeRise began hitting her while on the ground. Ketchup then pulled out a handgun and shot Binion 10 times.

Ketchup and DeRise left the scene before Ketchup called deputies a short time later and turned himself in.

During trial, Ketchup argued that he shot Binion out of self-defense as he believed she was armed. Authorities confirmed during investigation that she was not.

Ketchup has been jailed since the day of the incident, as he was never granted bond.

DeRise was arrested for battery in the days following the incident. She later signed a plea deal to a charge of misdemeanor battery and was sentenced in September 2024 to 60 days in county jail, as well as one year of probation.

Records show DeRise was released from jail on November 6, 2024, and her probation was terminated on Sept. 19.
