OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) – An Oakland County school district issued a shelter-in-place order on Wednesday as immigration agents conducted a nearby search for alleged gang members.
Clarkston Community Schools issued a shelter-in-place order as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents searched for two suspects near Pine Knob Elementary School.
Oakland County officials say the two suspects fled from ICE on foot.
The suspects were not found. Officials have not released any description of the suspects and it’s not clear whether authorities are still searching for them.
“We immediately deployed resources to protect the students, staff and surrounding community, and to assist in the search for the suspects,” Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Stephen W. Huber said.
“At this time, the suspects have not been located. The only remaining law enforcement presence in the area is at the elementary school where officers will remain until all students have safely gone home.”
According to NBC affiliate WDIV, the school lifted the order around 11 a.m.
