A Farmington Hills woman is facing criminal charges for a traffic crash last summer that killed one Oakland County road worker and injured two others.

Kimberly Regina Taylor, 59, was arraigned Wednesday in 47th District Court on one count of moving violation causing death in a work zone — a 15-year felony — and two counts of moving violation causing injury in a work zone, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail for the July 23 crash in Farmington Hills.

According to the Farmington Hills Police Department, the crash happened on Orchard Lake Road near Misty Pines Drive where a crew from the Road Commission of Oakland County was working near the median. The three men were struck shortly after 11 a.m. by an SUV driven by Taylor.

Cedric Jones, 43 — a married father of six — died at the scene. Co-workers George Thomas, 55, and Robert Dinkins, 57, were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The 3-count warrant resulted from an investigation by the Farmington Hills Police Department’s traffic safety section, and court records show the complaint was issued Nov. 17. As stated in a news release, Taylor “presented herself to the Farmington Hills police” on Nov. 19 and was arrested.

At her arraignment before Judge James Brady, Taylor was assigned a $5,000 personal bond, meaning she was released from custody with no requirement to post cash or surety. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 3 for a pre-exam conference.

“I would like to thank the families of the victims for their patience while we investigated the cause of this crash,” Farmington Hills Police Chief John Piggott stated in the news release. “The investigators worked diligently on this case, striving to determine how this tragic crash happened.

“It is my hope that today’s arrest and arraignment will provide some comfort to the families, knowing that justice will be determined through the court system.”
