San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan is throwing her name into the race to fill Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat.

Chan formally announced her candidacy on Thursday.

“San Francisco has always belonged to the people – not the powerful. And people in our city are struggling,” Chan said in a statement. “Families are hurt by high costs, communities are devastated by Trump policies. I’ve spent my career advocating for the everyday people who are the backbone of San Francisco. We don’t need a representative who talks and refuses to listen. I’m running for Congress to build coalitions, build up our communities and bring our voices to Washington.”

Chan worked as an interpreter in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office under Kamala Harris and was an aid to a supervisor as well as an aid to a state assemblymember. She was elected as a supervisor herself in 2021.

Chan will face State Sen. Scott Weiner and Saikat Chakrabarti in the congressional race.
