FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Longtime Action News anchor Warren Armstrong announced Thursday that he is dialing back his schedule and plans to retire in November 2026, capping more than four decades in broadcasting.
Armstrong shared the news with his ABC30 colleagues and viewers, saying he will continue to anchor the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts but will step away from the 11 p.m. show. His final late newscast is set for early January.
“I’m looking forward to finally spending all my evenings with my wife and family,” Armstrong said. “After all these years sneaking into my own house late at night because everyone else was sound asleep, it’s time.”
Armstrong has been a familiar face on Action News for 25 years, anchoring Live at Five, Live at Six and Live at Eleven.
Martin Ortiz, president and general manager of KFSN, shared his thoughts: “Warren has been a trusted voice in local news for nearly five decades, with an extraordinary career that began in Ohio and brought him to Fresno more than 40 years ago. Warren chose to make Fresno home with his family-and for that, we are forever grateful.”
“We are deeply grateful for Warren’s leadership, friendship, and steady hand,” said Ortiz. “While this marks the beginning of a transition, it’s not goodbye. Warren still has many more newscasts ahead in 2026, and we’ll celebrate him properly next year.”
A native of Wooster, Ohio, Armstrong graduated from Ashland College (now Ashland University) where he got his start anchoring and reporting for WRDL-TV/FM. His career took him to WTOV-TV in Steubenville, Ohio/Wheeling, West Virginia; KJEO-TV in Fresno; and KTXL-TV in Sacramento before returning to Fresno to join the Action News team in 2000.
Armstrong has earned 11 Emmy Awards, two RTNDA Awards, and an Edward R. Murrow Award as his reporting has taken viewers from Fresno City Hall to the White House, from the Sierra to the 38th Parallel in Korea.
