BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An inmate was captured about 30 minutes after, KCSO says, she escaped custody at Kern Medical early Friday morning.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on November 21, 2025, at about 3:15 a.m., an inmate, identified as 29-year-old Erica Toledo, escaped from Kern County Sheriff’s Office staff at Kern Medical, where she was being transported to be treated for a medical condition.
KCSO said deputies quickly set up a perimeter to the south while KCSO and BPD K9 units began a search.
Toledo was apprehended by the Bakersfield Police Department about 30 minutes later on Niles Street, just east of Mount Vernon Avenue. The distance from Kern Medical is about 0.6 miles.
Toledo was in-custody for vehicle theft and multiple warrants, according to KCSO.
KCSO said the circumstances surrounding her escape are being investigated and an additional charge of escape will be requested.
