Call it wholesome, call it homespun, lovingly label it as extremely nostalgic or ultra-sweet: A holiday season with a few ye olde details, and some calico cuteness, is always a welcome respite in our hectic modern lives.

Knott’s Merry Farm, the spirited seasonal celebration at Knott’s Berry Farm, has long delivered on the old-timey holiday front by treating guests to a yippee-ki-yay yuletide brimming with decorations, adorable activities, and Santa holding court in a Western-style cabin.

The annual event, which runs for several weeks each year, opens Nov. 21 with all of the ho-ho-hallmarks in twinkly tow.

That includes the Christmas Crafts Village, a longtime fan favorite, and the nightly tree lighting, a spectacle that involves over 7,000 lights beginning to sparkle in illuminated unison.

The Calico Carolers will be whimsically warbling around the Ghost Town area at Knott’s Merry Farm.

The Snoopy-on-ice extravaganza is popular with PEANUTS fans — so, all of us — and arriving early for the show, which draws its inspiration from “A Visit with St. Nicholas,” is always a smart idea.

The Ghost Town Carolers will stroll and sing around the oldest part of the historical Buena Park destination, while Latin rhythms and high-energy salsa tunes will add flair to the Fiesta Plaza Stage.

And while boysenberry treats may always be flavorfully found at Knott’s Berry Farm, look for all sorts of Christmassy confections, with peppermint and chocolate goodies in the season-sweet spotlight.

A turkey corn dog is one of the stars on the savory side, while a gingerbread cheesecake dip arrives with a side of munchy Nilla wafers.

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant will also feature a few made-for-the-holidays plates, including, oh wait for it, the turkey club jumbowich.

That sounds mighty homespun to us. See you at Knott’s Merry Farm, the calico-iest corner of Christmas traditions in Southern California.
