SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Waymo announced in a post on X its approval from the Department of Motor Vehicles to begin testing in Northern and Southern California, including Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo county cities.
A spokesperson with Waymo said, “We appreciate the DMV’s approval of our expanded fully autonomous operations. We’re proud to provide over one million safe, reliable, magical rides every month in San Francisco and Los Angeles, and we’re looking forward to opening our service to more Californians.”
The spokesperson tells ABC10 the DMV permit allows Waymo’s Jaguar I-Pace and Zeekr RT in their fleets to operate fully autonomously in the expanded areas. Maps of the areas of operation is approved for is available on the DMV’s website.
Waymo also announced service in San Diego will begin in 2026. Before opening to the public in San Diego, they will need to apply for a California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) driverless deployment permit, according to a spokesperson.
