The County’s Child and Family Well-Being Department celebrated today the unity of 39 families through adoption at Juvenile Court.

The annual event brings together adoptive parents, children, their extended families, friends and social workers as they finalize adoptions.

“This day is so special for everyone involved,” said Alfredo Guardado, County Child and Family Well-Being Director. “We are grateful to all the families who have welcomed these beautiful children into their homes. Many are family members of the children they are adopting, including grandparents, aunts and uncles who have opened their hearts and homes. The time and effort they have dedicated to this process comes to fruition today and we just want to say thank you.”

Now in its third year since its transformation, CFWB is focused on providing support and resources to families early so that children can stay with their families or be reunited whenever possible.

Over the last several years the number of children needing foster care has decreased by 25 percent. Also, by focusing on keeping families together, the number of children placed with relatives instead of foster families increased by 11 percent.
