Blaze Roll Past Maryville in WGNS State Farm Prep Football Game of the Week
Blackman earned one of the program’s biggest wins Friday night, controlling Maryville from start to finish in a 31–7 Class 6A quarterfinal victory. The win sends the Blaze to just the second state semifinal appearance in school history.
Blackman set the tone early. Micah Nance opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:42 left in the first quarter. A turnover early in the second gave Maryville a short field, leading to the Rebels’ only touchdown of the night, tying the game at 7–7.
The Blaze answered three minutes later when quarterback Javion Elliott connected with Braylon Odour for a 15-yard touchdown pass, and Blackman never trailed again. The Blaze later extended the lead to 21–7 at halftime.
Blackman made it a three-score game in the third quarter on a 40-yard field goal by Tyler Bororombozin with 5:12 remaining. Jabari Kemp added a fourth-quarter touchdown to secure the win and cap a strong all-around performance.
The Blaze defense stopped Maryville on multiple short-yardage plays, including a key fourth-and-one early in the game, and held the Rebels to just seven points — one of their lowest totals of the season.
The game aired on WGNS Radio as the State Farm Prep Football Game of the Week.
Blackman improves to 12–1 and moves on to face Oakland in the state semifinals.
Oakland Rallies Late to Beat Green Hill 21–17
Oakland used two fourth-quarter touchdowns to erase a 10-point deficit and defeat Green Hill 21–17 in its Class 6A quarterfinal matchup.
The Hawks led 17–7 early in the fourth quarter before Donte Cameron cut the margin with a 22-yard touchdown run at the 6:15 mark. After the defense forced a punt, Cameron broke free for a 78-yard touchdown run with 4:13 left, giving Oakland the lead. He finished with 157 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
Green Hill controlled much of the first three quarters behind Zach Cartwright (79 rushing yards, 1 TD) and quarterback Kannon Burroughs, who threw for 165 yards. The Hawks also scored on a third-quarter play where Dylan Hawks recovered his own fumble in the end zone.
Oakland’s defense tightened late, led by Kullen Williams with 12 tackles. Craig Tutt added 92 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Patriots.
Oakland improves to 13–0 and advances to host Blackman in the Class 6A semifinal on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. The Patriots won the regular-season meeting 32–0 on Sept. 26.
Rutherford County’s Historic Streak Continues
With Oakland and Blackman both reaching the semifinals, Rutherford County extends one of the longest postseason streaks in Tennessee. This marks 28 consecutive seasons in which a Rutherford County school has reached at least the state semifinal — and 31 of the last 32 years where a county team has reached the semifinals, state championship game, or won a state title.
PCA’s Best Season Ends in Division II-A Semifinal
Providence Christian Academy’s playoff run came to an end Friday night with a 31-12 semifinal loss at home (MTSU) to University School of Jackson (USJ) in the Division II-A bracket.
PCA finish the season 9–3, fresh off a 41-40 win over Friendship Christian in the previous round. The semifinal appearance was a milestone for the Lions, who are competing in only their third season of 11-man football. The 2025 campaign goes down as the best season in program history, with a region title and a deep playoff run that ended one win short of the state championship game.
