CLICK, CLICK, CLICK? That’s the staccato sound a camera makes, or at least a traditional camera, throughout a family’s vacation. A pose in the lobby, a group shot in the dining room, and the click, click, clicks do festively fly. But there is an iconic vacation destination where “click, click, click” might mean be something else entirely: The clicking of Dorothy’s ruby-heeled shoes as she fervently wishes her way home. Or, perhaps, to the Hotel del Coronado, a Victorian fantasia that boasts fabulous and fabled ties to L. Frank Baum, “The Wizard of Oz” author who, yes, designed the royal chandeliers in the hotel’s Crown Room. It makes sparkly sense that The Del would throw “A Holiday in Oz,” given its Baum-y past, and that is just what is now afoot, or rather a-ruby-slipper-clad-foot, at the beachside landmark.

SKATING BY THE SEA… has returned for a picturesque engagement, giving ice rink lovers the unusual opportunity to perform pirouettes just steps from the sand and surf. Some sumptuous holiday dinners are on the 2025 calendar, including Christmas Day Brunch which takes posh place in the storied Crown Room (as do the season’s other opulent meals). Oz-inspired trees line the “Tinsel Trail to Oz,” which is open through Jan. 1, while “The Wizard of Oz” will screen on the beach Dec. 27. And the “Wonder of Oz” Lightshow Spectacular” has the tunes inspired by the ensorcelled realm. We are Toto-ally serious: The hotel has to be a sweet stop-by for the Glindas and Elphabas of the Golden State.
