A Sunnyvale apartment manager faces a multitude of charges after investigators say he was caught with a cache of weapons and drugs in his home near a local elementary school. 51-year-old Brett Maxwell made his first appearance in court on Nov. 19. Officers say he managed an apartment complex in the Fair Oaks Park area of Sunnyvale.
“Our work with the District Attorney’s Office led to the arrest of an individual possessing dangerous guns and selling drugs in our community,” said Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS) Chief Dan Pastor. “This kind of collaboration is essential to keeping our neighborhoods safe, and we’re grateful for our partners who help us remove these dangerous threats from our streets.”
Sunnyvale DPS worked with the Santa Clara County Gun Violence Task Force (SCCGVTF), Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies and other local law enforcement agencies to serve search warrants at Maxwell’s apartment and storage facility on Nov. 13. They reportedly found firearms, some of them ghost guns, several pounds of heroin and methamphetamine and cash at Maxwell’s home. Officers say the drugs had an estimated street value of $100,000.

Officers also searched Maxwell’s storage unit several miles away. Investigators say they found guns, drugs and explosives at the unit.
No one was hurt in the raids.
Maxwell is charged with 25 felonies, including possession of firearms, assault weapons, and narcotics for sale. He faces significant prison time if convicted.
“We will never accept turning our neighborhoods into gun and drug bazaars,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “Thanks to the partnership between local and federal law enforcement agencies, we shut down both this extremely dangerous business and the reckless felon who ran it.”
