FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — From imaginative play to creative exercises, this year’s hottest holiday toys are designed to make learning fun.

Independent Toy Analyst Chris Byrne, also known as “The Toy Guy,” says the top picks reflect current trends in creativity, value, and appeal.

“What I always talk about is not just the financial value, but the play value,” he said. “A toy that a child is going to come back to again and again and stay engaged with.”

Bryne says Lego Duplo Interactive Adventure Train and Dora Explore and Play Rainforest Casita are packed with play for curious toddlers.

“Then for creative kids, the Fisher Price Laugh & Learn 4-in-1 Activity Table & Easel,” Byrne said. “There’s so much for kids to do in this — over 135 different activities and three smart stages of learning.”

While shopping the toy aisles, you may come across a new style of board game and see that the classic Connect 4 got a new twist.

Beyond trends and best-sellers, Byrne says three things add real value to a toy: providing a new experience, allowing kids to explore and helping them express themselves.

“The hot toy is only hot if it’s hot for your child,” he said. “We all have an individual play style, and finding out what that kid’s play style is and finding toys that help them express that is going to have long-term play value. The most sustainable toy is the one kids play with over time.”
