After a week off for practice and development time, the Ontario Regin roared back into action over the weekend, sweeping the Condors in a home-and-home series. Saturday night’s contest in Bakersfield opened with an expected push back from Edmonton’s AHL affiliate after they were dominated at Toyota Arena the night before.

True to form, the Condors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Undeterred, coach Andrew Lord’s Reign squad chipped away at things, picking up a pair of goals in the middle frame to tie thigs up after 40 minutes.

Following a scoreless third period, where both sides held firm defensively, rookie Jared Wright scored midway through overtime to secure Ontario’s victory and a weekend sweep in the back-to-back games. It also marked consecutive games with goals for the young Kings prospect. He’s now up to three goals in his past five games and continues to round out his game; the elite speed has always been there. Overall, Wright’s five goals on the season leads all Ontario rookies. Meanwhile, his plus-11 rating is second among AHL rookies — trailing only teammate Kenny Connors, who leads all rookies and sits second overall in the league with a plus-13 rating.

From here, the Reign will take the first part of the week off, returning to action next Friday when they host Carter Hart and the Henderson Silver Knights. It will be the first of five straight home games for Ontario.

Already without goaltender Erik Portillo and forward Franky Pinelli due to injury, Martin Chromiak was banged up in this game, and his status will need to be evaluated further in a few days.

Martin Chromiak took a big hit on the ice and was very slow to get up.

He skated off the ice under his own power, holding a towel to his face. Looks like he was bleeding pretty bad.

The Reign will now (more than likely) be without their RW1.
