Civic Center BART Station has just been closed and there is no service between 24th Street and Civic Center following an explosion on the tracks, according to Anna Duckworth from the BART Communications Department.
“This is due to an equipment problem on the trackway, specifically an insulator that was blown and caused a lot of smoke to accumulate inside the station,” Duckworth said in a voice recording for media.
“There was loud banging and light illuminating from the stairwell,” a passenger at the Civic Center station said in a text message. It sounded like a crash, she said, but could not be certain.
Minutes later, Muni was moving. BART was not.
Delays will happen on the San Francisco line in all directions, according to a social media post from BART.
