Creativity Speaks: Phil Tretheway, Tamara Lawrence, & Heather Orr-Martine 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Urban Hive, 1601 Alhambra Blvd. This month’s featured speakers are all founders of Creativity Speaks. Heather Orr-Martinez is principal and creative director at Thomas|Ferrous Design in Sacramento, where she merges creativity and functionality across industries, especially in food and packaging. Tamara Lawrence is a creative director, brand strategist, and storyteller with 20-plus years of experience shaping campaigns for top-tier brands such as Disney, Uber, Zillow, and Visit California. Phil Tretheway is a third-generation Sacramentan and award-winning creative director at Position and board president at Capitol Creative Alliance. With two decades of experience in branding and digital design, he’s also a champion of community leadership, co-founding Creativity+ and serving as current president of the Capital Creative Alliance. Tickets are $18.

BLACK MEN: Alive & Well 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at ONTRACK Program Resources, 520 Ninth St. No. 102. This group provides a safe and honest forum for Black men to come together twice a month and discuss issues related to being a Black man in America. Topics include but are not limited to fatherhood, intimate relationships, sexuality, stereotypes, anger, communication, loving ourselves and our people, employment, education, socializing and our own internal dialogue. Free and open to Black men in the community.

Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Clippers (Preseason) 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Golden 1 Center. Support your Kings as they take on the Clippers in their final exhibition. Tickets from $14.

Say It Loud – Live Comedy 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. Come out for a night of laughs with performances from Shaun Grady, MCJ, Detroit Reid, Tina San Lucas, and Javon Whitlock. Tickets are $24.

3rd Friday Reggae with Native Elements & Stay Positive Sound 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Swabbies Restaurant and Bar. San Francisco powerhouse Native Elements has kept the energetic, feel-good reggae tradition alive in the Bay Area for more than 20 years. Composed of nine seasoned musicians with decades of experience in rock, metal, blues, jazz and hip-hop, this eclectic and fearless crew fuses unique influences into a contemporary, melodic, horn-driven party. Tickets are $16.

Keon Polee – Live Comedy 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 17-18, at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club. Bay Area native Keon Polee is back on tour, headlining his new act “Polee Is a Foolee Tour” and being featured as a comedic act for Cousin Tiera’s “Family Reunion Tour” and Preacher Lawson’s “Best Day Ever Tour.” Tickets are $29.

2nd Annual Scholarship Fundraiser Flapjack Breakfast 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Applebee’s, 2024 Arden Way. Come support the Northern California Chapter 10th Cavalry Company G Buffalo Soldiers. Get a good meal and the satisfaction of investing in the future of our youth. Tickets are $12.

I’m Keeping Mine 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Legacy Center, 2324 L St. This event is designed to renew your commitment, deepen your bond, and strengthen your marriage through biblical teachings, inspiring messages, and practical workshops. Whether newlyweds or decades together, you’ll gain tools to enhance communication, intimacy, and resilience, all rooted in God’s Word. Enjoy heartfelt worship, personal reflection, and fellowship with other couples committed to keeping their vows alive. Tickets are $175 per couple.

Healthy Community Day 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Grant High School. Free health screenings, vaccinations, fruits and vegetables, haircuts, health coverage enrollment and renewal assistance, and much more. Healthy Community Day is presented and made possible by Golden 1 Credit Union, Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health and UC Davis Health. Free and open to the public.

5th Annual Wild Howl-O-Ween 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, 403 Stafford St. Come and enjoy this family-friendly Halloween event with the animals for some goodies along the treat trail. Costumes are encouraged. Follow the treat trail along the map through the zoo sanctuary as you see the animals and visit the vendor booths to collect treats. Be sure to get your map stamped at each stop and turn it in at the main entrance for a chance to win some fang-tastic prizes, including an annual family membership to the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. Tickets are $13, kids under 2 are free.

Hornet Football vs Northern Colorado 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Sacramento State, Hornet Stadium. Support your Hornets as they take on Northern Colorado and try to get to .500. Tickets from $17.

2025 Woman On Fire Gala 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Dante Event Center. This year’s theme, “Flame Carriers – Women who light the path for generations to come,” recognizes the powerful leadership of Black women who continue to inspire, uplift, and pave the way for future generations. The Flame Carrier Award will be presented to six phenomenal women whose work exemplifies resilience, courage, and lasting impact in our community: Courtney Dempsey, Tanisha Taylor, Pleshette Robertson, Genoa Barrow, Miss Wanda, and Alana I. Smith. The evening will feature a cocktail hour, gala dinner, silent auction, award ceremony, and live music and performances.
