A Bakersfield man pleaded guilty Monday to being a felon in possession of explosives and making crystal methamphetamine.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release that, in July, 44-year-old Matthew Henry Jacober kept 50 pounds of dynamite in a cave less than 15 feet from the travel trailer where he lived.

He was also found to be in the process of making meth in his trailer, where according to the release he had finished product as well as meth he was turning from liquid to crystal form.

It said he was convicted in 2021 of a felony charge of making a destructive device without a permit.

Jacober is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 17, when he will face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the explosives charge, plus a maximum of 40 years and up to $5 million fine for making meth.
