BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Congressman Vince Fong (CA-20) welcomed the Central Valley Honor Flight and Kern County Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
The visit was amid a government shutdown.
Honor Flight Kern County took off on October 13. The group visited Washington D.C. to tour War Memorials dedicated to them and their fallen brothers and sisters.
During their visit, veterans were also surprised by a special guest appearance from Speaker Mike Johnson on the House Floor.
“It is always an honor to welcome the pillars of our community – our nation’s heroes – to Washington, D.C.,” said Congressman Fong. “As someone who has served as a guardian and participated in numerous Honor Flights before being elected to Congress, it was important to me that, regardless of political gridlock, our veterans received the recognition they deserve. I’m grateful to Speaker Mike Johnson for taking the time to make our veterans feel extra special, and to Congressman David Valadao for joining me in welcoming the Kern County Honor Flight.”
During the visit, there was a Veterans Awards Recognition.
Honor Flight 52 is expected to return to Kern County on Wednesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m.
