A 21-year-old man died Wednesday after the Lexus he driving changed lanes and crashed into another vehicle on state Route 125 in Spring Valley, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened when the northbound Lexus crashed into a sedan driving in the lane to its right around 5:30 a.m. near Troy Street, CHP officials said in a news release.
The Lexus then lost control, drove up an embankment and collided with a tree, CHP said. A witness told investigators that the driver of the sedan stopped on the shoulder, exited his car, but then got back into and drove away.
The Lexus driver, a Spring Valley resident, died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
The lanes were reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
