SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A man has been arrested in Tennessee in connection with an alleged murder that took place in Sacramento County in 2010.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Lynda Haynie was reported missing in July 2010 but was never found.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation into Haynie’s disappearance became a homicide investigation after new evidence was obtained in January of this year.

Detectives identified Jonathan Simpson, who lived in Maryville, Tennessee, as one of the suspects involved with Haynie’s disappearance.

Officials said Sacramento homicide detectives, with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Simpson at his home on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy on Nov. 12.

Simpson was booked in Monroe County and has been extradited to Sacramento, where he remains in custody, officials said.

An investigation into additional suspects involved in Haynie’s disappearance is ongoing.
