The search committee for the position of vice president of University Advancement announced on Nov. 12 the decision to extend the search after hearing feedback from open forums held the week prior on the two finalists previously selected.
“After careful consideration and with the support of President Ronald Rochon, our search committee has decided to extend the search. We appreciate you taking the time to participate and offer your perspectives,” the statement reads.
With the search initially meant to have ended in the spring semester of this year, Rochon announced in April that the searches had failed and would resume again this semester.
The VPUA oversees the university’s comprehensive fundraising program, alumni relations program and government and community relations.
The VPUA reports directly to the president of Cal State Fullerton and serves as a member of the president’s cabinet and advisory board. The position is also one of six vice president positions at CSUF. The searches for provost and vice president of Academic Affairs along with the search for the VPUA are still ongoing.
While a site dedicated to information regarding the search for the VPUA has been hyperlinked on the CSUF Leadership Search site, candidate information, related forums and information on the search committee is not yet available on the website as of Nov. 21.
When asked for information on the previous two finalists, why the search was extended and why information has not yet been made available in regards to the VPUA search committee and campus communication, the university declined to answer.
“Out of respect for all candidates and in keeping with our standard practice, we don’t comment on personnel matters or discuss individual candidates,” said Interim Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications and Brand Management Tran Le.
It was also announced that while the search continues, Interim Vice President of University Advancement Kimberly Shiner will continue to serve in the role until the position has been filled.
Shiner was appointed in an interim capacity in February 2024 where she was to serve in the position until the end of the year.
Shiner replaced former Vice President Greg Saks, who previously served in the role for 11 years. The decision to appoint Shiner came after Saks was appointed as the vice chancellor of the Division of External Relations and Communications for the CSU by the Chancellor Mildred García.
