(FOX40.COM) — A woman was sent to the hospital Monday night after a major car crash that may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Around 5:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento. Officers said a man and woman were traveling eastbound when their vehicle crashed into a stone hill near the Mather Field off-ramp.

According to CHP, a domestic dispute may have triggered the collision. The woman was found unconscious. The man had minor injuries, while the woman had cuts on her face and head. She was transported to a local hospital. Her condition is unclear.

As of 10 p.m., the surrounding roadways were still closed, and CHP was investigating the scene. Investigators are working to determine if the woman’s injuries were from the crash or an assault. The man has been detained for questioning.
