A do not use water order issued for a Ventura neighborhood Wednesday morning has been lifted.

Residents in the city’s Pierpont neighborhood told to avoid their tap water Wednesday morning after authorities said traces of gasoline were detected in the water. The contamination report was caused by a false positive during routine testing, the city said in an update Wednesday.

“Follow-up testing on multiple additional samples has confirmed that your water is safe,” the city said. “There is no contamination, and it is safe to drink, cook with, bathe in, and use for hand washing.”

The emergency alert came as many people were preparing to host family or getting ready to cook Thanksgiving dinner.

“Luckily I’m going to a friend’s house in Agoura. But I don’t know how I’m going to survive. We have no idea how long this is going to go on. we have no idea how to live essentially. might have to get a hotel or something,” said Rania Hanna, a Ventura resident.
