FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — After hundreds of stops throughout Central California, we’ve discovered restaurateurs closely watch what’s coming out of everyone else’s kitchen.

Sometimes, the plates represent a mixture of cultures.

Sometimes, they’re just over the top.

Raul Carrillo, Jr. helps his mother-in-law, Greicy, at Guisados Greicy on Shaw near Highway 99 in northwest Fresno.

“I love looking at the different styles, the different cuisines that you guys have to offer,” he said. “I think that’s what my mother-in-law and I, we go and sit down and say ‘Wow, we’ve got to try that spot next.'”

Fabian Rodriguez of Bella Pasta Trattoria Italiana at Palm and Herndon isn’t looking for new restaurants to try, but he enjoys seeing the personality of fellow chefs come out in the kitchen and in the dishes.

“That’s sometimes the funny part about watching them,” Rodriguez said. “A lot of it is I’m watching them, I think I’m a little too old school, where I like to know that the owner is there. I like to know that the owner can cook the dishes.”

Over at Main Street Burgers, Wally Abdul watches the segments closely, maybe for a dish that might work at his own place. Then again, he’s also willing to share. Food has always been something that brings us all together.

“I like to take some ideas sometimes,” he said. “We’re here to help each other. Something you like at my place, maybe it can benefit your business.”

Helping local businesses grow is always a goal.
