While many businesses were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, a few restaurants across Sacramento stayed open, serving hungry customers looking to share a holiday meal.”It’s no easy task being one of the few restaurants open on Thanksgiving night,” said Shelby Davis, the general manager from The Porch Restaurant and Bar in Midtown Sacramento. “We have been full for most of the day.”Davis and her team expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve a holiday meal, especially after a fire earlier this year set the business back. “Everyone is grateful and happy to have somewhere to eat when they don’t have family or anybody nearby to share it. So it’s been good for us,” said Davis. Seeing the restaurant filled with customers this Thanksgiving brought a real sense of reflection and gratitude for the team. “It really made me think, oh my gosh, people really thought about us. People really wanted to come and eat here.”In Old Sacramento, the historic Firehouse Restaurant was filled with over 600 reservations. Co-owner Mario Ortiz emphasized the importance of personal interactions with diners to KCRA as he conducted table checks throughout the evening. “Thank you for being here. I hope you enjoyed everything,” Ortiz told patrons. He noted the convenience of dining out on Thanksgiving. “It takes a lot of work to prepare dinner at home, but also not enough time to enjoy your family and friends. And, you know, we take all that away from them, they can just sit down and relax,” said Ortiz.
