A coyote bit a 3-year-old child in the parking lot of a University City mall Tuesday night, San Diego police said.

The incident happened about 9 p.m. near Westfield UTC mall near La Jolla Village and Towne Centre drives, a police spokesperson said.

The child, bitten on the arm and hip, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

10News reported that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the incident, and that the state agency said another child was also injured in the incident. However, no additional details were provided about the second child.

Department of Fish and Wildlife did not respond to a request for information Friday.
