Thomas Dambo is well known for his whimsical sculptures that look like they stepped right out of a fantasy story. Dambo recently installed large, whimsical troll sculptures just 30 minutes from San Francisco, tucked away in a peaceful redwood grove that is part of a historic estate. The outdoor exhibition only has a few weeks left before closing, so now is the perfect time to see it before it’s gone.

TROLLS: Save the Humans is currently on display at Filoli Garden and Estate in their redwood grove. The exhibition features six troll sculptures nestled throughout the historic estate’s redwoods. The sculptures are made from reclaimed materials, and the exhibition explores themes of recycling and the importance of nature. Each troll has a different name and personality, with the goal of helping visitors reconnect with nature. You can visit Ibbi Pip with her colorful birdhouses and stop by Rosa Sunfinger, who nurtures plants even in the most unlikely of places. You can even take an online quiz to see which troll you are before (or after) visiting the property.

The exhibition opened earlier this spring, and it will soon come to a close on November 10, 2025. Thomas Dambo is a world-renowned artist known for creating incredible pieces from recycled materials. He has created over 100 troll sculptures, which have become his signature, but his work also includes birdhouses, a plastic forest, and a Christmas Village. Dambo’s work is all over the world, with troll sculptures in China, Korea, France, Australia, Hungary, and more.

The exhibition is included in general admission tickets for the estate and garden. Guests can explore the manicured gardens before stepping into a more wild area of the estate where the trolls reside. This fall, you can see the sculptures after dark during Filoli’s Halloween-themed Nightfall events.
