The daily commute around campus was disrupted as rain poured down onto the open spaces of Long Beach State, causing students to scatter and huddle on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The CSULB community dealt with the effects of the storm during the morning as they navigated a wet campus with umbrellas to find their way to covered areas to avoid having damp clothes throughout the rest of the day.

As people arrived on campus around 9 a.m., the sky was cloudy and dark with gusts of wind swaying tree branches back and forth.

Around 9:30 a.m., rainfall began, forcing people to bring out their umbrellas or seek cover inside buildings.

Many people did not have umbrellas and braved the rain with only a sweater for protection, leaving their clothes and backpacks wet.

Others shared umbrellas as they made their way up or down the Friendship Walk stairway, where rainfall caused the steps to be slick and large puddles to form around the area.

There was a break from the rain until around 11 a.m., when the downpour resumed.

People crowded together in the hallways along the College of Liberal Arts buildings as they headed towards the library.

A partial ceiling protection outside of the Hall of Science building provided some with temporary relief from the rain. However, a shuttle stop near the Liberal Arts 1 building could not accommodate the number of people seeking shelter as they waited for the next bus.

According to the Long Beach Post, the storm brought almost an inch of rain to Long Beach by noon, with conditions expected to clear by evening after light showers.
