SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ben Roseborough was the Spartans’ leading scorer with 12 and Yaphet Moundi tallied 10 points and nine rebounds to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (3-5, 0-0 MW) in a 72-63 loss to UC Irvine (5-4, 0-0 Big West) Sunday afternoon from Provident Credit Union Event Center.
The Spartans stayed within striking distance throughout the first period, finishing the half down just 36–34 after a buzzer-beating tip-in from Adrian Myers.
UC Irvine’s physicality became the difference-maker. The Anteaters outscored SJSU 50–26 inside and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with a 15–10 advantage. A decisive UCI run midway through the second half pushed the lead to double digits, and the Spartans were unable to erase the deficit.
