Traffic enforcement and driver behavior have created a mess

I am writing once again about the appalling situation regarding the lack of traffic enforcement and the utter disregard that drivers have for streetlights, stop signs and speed limits in The Village of La Jolla.

The police have not done anything, the mayor and City Council have done zero.

I urge awareness of the terrible ongoing mess on our city streets.

Remember to be grateful for our gifts

The end of 2025 is upon us and the holiday season is in full swing. Many of us love this time of year and some of us aren’t as enchanted. Whichever group you’re in, all of us can explore our individual capacity for gratitude.

Feelings of gratitude shift our mood and mindset in a positive way, and there is always something to be grateful for each day.

Living in La Jolla is a gift — the coastal vibe and views are truly magnificent. This community is a friendly one and we are all very fortunate to call it home.

Gratitude can be sparked while we share special moments with our friends, family and neighbors.  These sparks bring us together and light up our lives and this town. There is so much to connect over as humans and La Jollans.

Slowing down for moments of gratitude during this busy time of year is important. We honor the joy within, and this ultimately spreads to the joy in our community.

Fire station renovation project still needs donations

As many of you already know, La Jolla Sunrise Rotary, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation and the Rotary Club of La Jolla are working together to raise funds for the materials and supplies needed to remodel the living quarters for the firefighters of Fire Station 16. This note is to thank all of those who have already stepped forward to help.

To date we have raised $70,000 in cash and pledges, approximately half of what’s needed for the city to begin construction. Should we receive sufficient donations by the end of December, the work could begin as early as late January, which would be a huge help to those we count on to respond to emergencies and protect us in the event of a fire (Mount Soledad has been identified as one of the highest-risk areas in the county).

If you have not already contributed and would like to do so before the new tax laws kick in Jan. 1, please contact the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation at wendy@sdfirerescue.org to find out the easiest way to donate, earmarking Fire Station 16 as the project you want to support.
