The death this summer of a 35-year-old man who was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Long Beach last year has been officially linked to the crash, police said Monday.
The man, identified as Jason Owens, was struck around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 2024, at Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said a Honda sedan was being driven east on PCH when it struck the man, who was walking northbound across PCH outside a marked crosswalk.
The driver of the sedan remained at the scene. Speed, distraction, and impairment were not factors in the collision, police said.
Owens, a Long Beach resident, was pronounced dead on July 1, 2025. Detectives were notified Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner that Owens’ death was connected to last year’s traffic collision.
