As a deputy arrived at the scene and approached the vehicle, a man exited, shot at the officer, and fled on foot, according to SCSO. The deputy was not struck or injured and did not return fire.
Subsequently, SCSO set up a perimeter with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, including the Sacramento Police Department and the Elk Grove Police Department. The suspect was found a short time later in a field near a mobile home park on Stillman Park Circle.
According to SCSO, the suspect was armed with a handgun and made repeated threats. Officers attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender for several hours. Despite those efforts, deputies said the suspect fatally shot himself.
