OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A man died in a fire in northern Oakland County late Monday night.
The fire happened at a barn with an interior apartment on Keir Road near Bird Road in Groveland Township on Dec. 1, just before 12 a.m.
When crews responded to the scene, the barn was fully engulfed. The homeowners told Michigan State Police that their 76-year-old uncle was still inside the barn, as he lived in the apartment.
After the fire was put out, police and fire crews found a body inside the barn.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate this fire,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “We are waiting on the Medical Examiner report to positively identify the body inside as the homeowner’s uncle. At the time, it does not appear that the fire was intentional.”
