BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 38-year-old man, who allegedly fired a gun, was arrested early Tuesday morning after a standoff in east Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on December 2, 2025, at about 2:05 a.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 900 block of Kentucky Street.

When they arrived, neighbors directed officers to a back house on a property, where a man had barricaded himself inside.

Police said officers learned through witness information and video surveillance that the man had fired a gun from the back house. Officers repeatedly called out to him and asked him to come out safely, but he refused.

According to police, members of the SWAT team responded to assist. Despite continued verbal efforts and the use of noise and flash devices, the man still refused to exit.

Officers then used a chemical irritant to encourage the man to get out of the home. This resulted in the man safely getting out of the home.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Uriel Bonilla, was taken into custody without further incident. Bonilla was arrested for charges including reckless discharge of a firearm.

He was booked into the Kern County Jail. This investigation is ongoing.
