Late-night street vendors in Tower District may face new restrictions under Fresno proposal

Buying food from street vendors late at night on weekends in the Tower District could soon be a thing of the past under a new proposal.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Buying food from street vendors late at night on weekends in the Tower District could soon be a thing of the past under a new proposal.

That’s as proposed amendments to the sidewalk vending ordinance will be introduced to the Fresno City Council during their meeting today.

Yesterday, Fresno City Council Vice President Miguel Arias proposed the amendments.

He says he’s addressing public safety and health concerns in Central Fresno.

The first proposed amendment would ban sidewalk vending in the Tower District Friday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The second amendment would increase fines citywide for unpermitted sidewalk vending food cooked on-site using barbecue grills or other heated surfaces with a fuel source.

If approved, the ordinance would take effect on December 1.
