Bears Will Play 24 Dual Matches This Spring
With the fall tennis season coming to an end, the California men’s tennis team announced its schedule for the second half of the year, with the Golden Bears playing 24 dual matches, including 13 ACC duals in their second season in the conference. The Bears will host 14 matches at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley
Cal opens the season Jan. 7 with a nonconference match against the University of Hawaii in Manoa, Hawaii. The Bears will also face Gonzaga on Jan. 8th in Manoa as well. The Bears will have their home opener on Jan. 16 when they will face nonconference opponents Cal Poly and San Diego State at 11 a.m. PT and 3 p.m. PT, respectively.
The Bears will then host one of the 15 locations across the nation for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, which was awarded to Cal after the team finished in the top 15 of the ITA poll at the end of last season. The weekend will begin Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. PT with a dual against Oklahoma. If the Bears advance, they will face either UCF or USC on Jan. 24 for a chance to qualify for the ITA Indoor National Championships. If the Bears fail to advance, they will host Pacific and go on the road to face Saint Mary’s.
Before the start of the ACC regular season, the Bears will also host USC, UC Davis and USC, before going on the road to compete against San Diego. During the ACC regular season, the Bears will host Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, SMU, NC State, Wake Forest and Stanford. Cal will also travel on the road to face Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame, Clemson and Georgia Tech.
This season, Cal will host Stanford on April 11 for the regular season finale, when the Bears will also celebrate McManus Legends Day as well as Senior Day.
After the regular season, Cal will have a chance to compete at the ACC Championship in Cary, North Carolina, on April 15-19. The NCAA team championship starts May 1 at sites to be announced and ends May 17 in Athens, Georgia.
