A section of Pico Boulevard between LA Live Way and Figueroa Street will be closed starting Thursday through March 31, 2028, as construction moves forward for the LA Convention Center expansion project.
While the section of street is closed, the city will implement a detour to go east and west using Olympic and Venice boulevards.
Pico between LA Live Way and Figueroa will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Typical working hours for the project will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional work hours may be added as required.
In addition, work will take place in the surrounding area on Dec. 6-7 to re-stripe area streets to indicate a detour. That work area will also be on Pico between Albany Street and Grand Avenue.
The project will connect the existing South and West Exhibit Halls above Pico Boulevard. City officials say it will create more than 15,000 jobs, add $652 million in general fund tax revenue over 30 years and draw more than $150 million in additional visitor spending each year.
Workers are expected to conduct demolition, underground utilities, excavation, foundations and pile placement, structural steel erections, sidewalk and roadwork improvements, traffic controls, backfilling, asphalt paving, striping of roadways and intersections and landscaping.
City officials said the closure is necessary to construct above Pico Boulevard and connect the West Hall with the South Hall.
