NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The state of Tennessee has filed an appeal challenging the city of Memphis’ claims that the National Guard is deployed there illegally.
Two months ago, troops were sent to Memphis as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce crime.
The appeal comes after Memphis Mayor Lee Harris claimed the deployment was illegal as part of an ongoing lawsuit. Troops are working with multiple agencies to seize illegal weapons and arrest criminals, but Harris and others argue that Gov. Bill Lee sent the Guard without a true emergency.
