Long Beach Peninsula gathering celebrates ‘wild’ outdoors

The federal shutdown has curtailed events in celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week. The “Find Your Wild.” trail hikes and events had been planned at the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge, at 7112 67th Place, in Long Beach.
Trails will remain open to walkers, however.
At 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 there will be a gathering at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum, at 115 S.E. Lake Street, in Ilwaco. Those attending will hear from the Friends of the Refuge board president and the Refuge manager and meet live birds presented by Wild Birds of Discovery Bay.
Coffee, tea and cookies will be provided. Registration is required at www.friendsofwillaparefuge.org because the room can only hold 80.
