OUT A NUMBER OF HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS ALONG SOME BUSY STREETS NEAR THE DOWNTOWN REGION. THOSE ENCAMPMENTS WERE ALONG NORTH 12TH STREET AND OTHER STREETS NEAR LOAVES AND FISHES IN THE CITY’S RIVER DISTRICT. THESE ENCAMPMENTS HAVE BEEN GROWING OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS AND BLOCKING SIDEWALKS AND BIKE PATHS. WE SAW POLICE OFFICERS, ALONG WITH THE CITY’S OUTREACH TEAM, ON THE STREETS THERE. ONE PERSON WE SPOKE WITH SAYS SHE’S BEEN HOMELESS FOR SIX MONTHS NOW AND THINKS THE CITY CAN DO BETTER TO HELP PEOPLE LIKE HER. THEY’VE BEEN VERY KIND. THEY’VE GIVEN ME TIME TO MOVE. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY IS THE HOMELESS. DESERVE BETTER THAN WHAT THEY’RE GETTING. I THINK THEY SHOULD OPEN UP AN ARMORY OR SOMETHING AND GET THEM ALL OFF THE STREET. The city of Sacramento on Wednesday cleared out several homeless encampments along North 12th Street and other streets near Loaves and Fishes in the River District.The encampments had been growing over the past few weeks and were blocking sidewalks and bike paths.Police officers and the city’s outreach team were present at the scene. One person who has been homeless for six months said she was being given time to move.
