This year’s parade, themed “A Family Christmas,” saw a record number of entries, including 49 vehicles, 44 floats, 18 marching or performance groups, and 17 bands.

Many attendees, bundled in warm blankets and armed with snacks, lined the streets of downtown Bakersfield, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus.

“We come every year, probably. It’s been… well, at least nine years,” said a member of the Alvidrez family. “We’ve sat in different places, and we’ve kind of got different aspects of the parade, but what we enjoyed the most is just being around people and celebrating the time of the year.”

Santa Claus was a highlight for many, with Cruz Muro noting, “I think my favorite is probably the end when Santa Claus comes through. That’s my favorite float.”

Esther Peinado expressed excitement about the creativity on display, saying, “I’m always excited to see the new floats and the new details that everybody puts into their floats, their costumes, and everything.”

For some, the parade is about more than just family.

“I know some people here might not have a family, but this is something that they look forward to and can enjoy as a community. So I don’t know. I think that’s beautiful as well,” said Esther Peinado.

Safety was a priority, with the Bakersfield Police Department leading the parade and patrolling the route to ensure a safe and enjoyable night for all.

The parade is just one of many holiday events taking place across Kern County.
