Scrivner hearing set for Thursday morning
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A hearing on the Zack Scrivner case — including a motion for mental health diversion recently filed by defense counsel — is scheduled for Thursday morning.
17 News will live blog the proceedings.
The former county supervisor, 51, is charged with multiple felonies: three counts of child cruelty and two counts of illegally possessing an assault rifle.
The motion seeking diversion has been sealed and no details have been made public.
Generally speaking, such motions, if granted, require defendants to undergo a treatment program and abide by court-ordered terms. If they fulfill all terms and stay out of trouble, the case is dismissed.
A criminal complaint filed by the state Attorney General’s Office says Scrivner took mind-altering substances on the evening of April 23, 2024.
He got in bed with and sexually penetrated a child, according to the complaint.
It also says he illegally possessed an AK-47 style rifle and an AR-15 style rifle. The Attorney General’s Office is handling the case because Scrivner is the nephew of Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer.
