In a land of nearly endless green and grain bowls, it takes a lot to stand out from the pack. But Fountain Grains & Greens, a tight, mostly takeout operation with an ordering window across the street from the looming East Hollywood Scientology building, cracked the code by making the most of chef Aric Attebery’s relationships with local farmers. Mosey to the ordering window for salad and grain bowls built around produce that tastes straight from the farmers market (because it is) and nutty Lopes Family Farms brown rice, plus long-simmered bone broth, slices of seeded sourdough, and ice-cold Topo Chico.
Head across the street to ceramics shop Danny D’s Mud Shop to pick up handmade copitas for mezcal, or down to Nam Coffee for creamy Vietnamese iced coffee that is also available entirely vegan.
Any of the bowls — most of which are vegan — can be customized with a protein like hanger steak, chicken breast, or a soft-boiled egg.
