SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

El Camino Fundamental High School students hit the airwaves Friday for a marathon broadcasting session.

The school’s KYDS 91.5 FM radio station kicked off its annual holiday-time Audiothon—a 24-hour fundraising effort and gift card drive that will support the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento this year.

“It’s just such a gift when the community steps up to help the kids that are in need of our care, our support, our love,” said Danielle McGarrity of the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento. “That means a lot to them. They know that people out there, they’ve never met, are gonna help them out. Get them through the holidays, which could be pretty tricky.”

The Audiothon runs through Saturday at 8:00 a.m. Students like El Camino senior Will Tomlin will share the message about the need to make donations to the receiving home.

“I think it’s really important to have something that you can do to give back to the community,” Tomlin said. “I really love Sacramento. Like, I’ve lived my whole life here, so it’s a super amazing place and I’m really glad to be able to do something to help out other kids in the area and really build that sense of community.”
